So my wife got this awesome Canon digital SLR camera. It's was so awesome that it was beyond me as to how to use it. In a short week I have become to grasp the concept and importance of Iso, Shutter Speed, and Aperture and how to use them to adjust the light meter to create a good picture.
In the past when I have taken pictures with a point and shoot, the flash would always go off and change what I thought the image was going to look like. With my knew knowledge I was able to take pictures that reflected my vision.
The picture I chose was taken at night. With a point and shoot, the flash and/or my lack of control, would have completely changed the outcome. Instead I was able to capture what I saw: The mild light of a street light illuminating just parts of itself. I feel like this picture is a great example of "less is more." Since it was dark and a low light, the only parts that showed up were ones in close proximity to the lamp. With so much of the picture blacked-out, the viewer is forced to look at a much smaller subject.
PS I also like how it looks like the lamp is floating in the air.
